CADENCE RIDING ACADEMY

Cadence welcomes riders ages 4 through adult, from first-time beginners to experienced riders.

All new riders begin with a private riding lesson. This first lesson gives you the opportunity to meet your instructor, become familiar with our horses and facility, and allows us to recommend the best next step based on your experience and goals.

After your first lesson, we’ll guide you toward the lesson option that’s the best fit for you.

No previous riding experience is necessary! We welcome brand-new beginners through experienced riders. Our professional instructors meet each rider at their current level and help them build skills, confidence, and a strong foundation as they progress through our program.

Our structured program is designed to develop strong riding skills, horsemanship, confidence, and independence, with instruction tailored to each rider’s experience, ability, and goals.

Fundamentals of Riding

Cadence teaches English riding with an emphasis on correct equitation and follows USHJA standards. Our program focuses on the fundamentals of good riding: position, balance, coordination, control, and clear, effective communication with the horse.

These are universal riding skills that provide an excellent foundation for virtually any riding discipline. Riders who develop a strong English riding foundation can successfully transition those skills to Western riding, dressage, eventing, trail riding, and other equestrian disciplines.

Riders begin with fundamental flatwork and progress to more advanced skills as they develop the balance, control, confidence, and ability needed for more advanced skills.

Horsemanship

Becoming a well-rounded equestrian involves more than time in the saddle. Riders learn essential horse care and horsemanship skills, including grooming, tacking, untacking, and caring for their horse before and after lessons.

For Your First Lesson:

Riders may borrow a Cadence riding helmet and wear long pants and closed-toed shoes for their first lesson. No special riding apparel is required for your first visit.

For Future Lessons:

After the first lesson, riders are expected to wear proper English riding attire for safety, comfort, and effective riding:

• ASTM/SEI-certified riding helmet (long hair tied back)
• English paddock boots, with or without half chaps, or English tall boots
• Riding breeches, jodhpurs, or riding tights
• Riding gloves recommended during cold-weather months
• During cold weather, jackets and outerwear should be fitted and suitable for riding

Please do not wear cowboy boots, jeans, baggy or excessively loose clothing, or long/dangling jewelry.

Local riding apparel is available at Red Earth Feed & Tack in Oklahoma City and Circle E in Edmond. Online options include Ariat, Kerrits, Farm House Tack, and SmartPak.

Our Cadence Riding Academy horses and ponies are carefully selected for their safety, temperament, training, and suitability for our lesson program. Each is experienced and well-trained, helping us provide a safe, positive, and productive learning environment for riders of all levels.

Many of our school horses are experienced former show horses with extensive competition records, bringing a high level of training and experience to our program. Our diverse school horse collection includes Warmbloods, Thoroughbreds, Quarter Horses, Welsh Cobs, Haflingers, Paints, ponies, and more.

Our horses vary in size, age, experience, and skill level, allowing our instructors to thoughtfully match each rider with horses appropriate for their size, ability, experience, and riding goals.

As riders progress, they have the opportunity to ride a variety of horses and ponies—an important part of developing confidence, adaptability, and becoming a well-rounded equestrian.

Our professional riding instructors are experienced, knowledgeable, and welcoming, with a commitment to providing high-quality instruction in a safe and positive environment.

Instruction is tailored to each rider’s experience, ability, learning style, and goals, helping riders build confidence, develop strong fundamentals, and progress at an appropriate pace.

Jumping is completely optional and is never required to participate in our riding program. Riders may continue developing their riding skills without jumping if that is their preference.

For riders who choose to jump, jumping is introduced gradually and safely as an intermediate to advanced skill after the appropriate fundamental riding skills have been mastered.

Horseback riding is a unique sport that combines physical fitness, mental focus, skill, responsibility, and a special connection with horses. Riders develop abilities both in and out of the saddle that can benefit them at every age.

Any lesson fees or charges not approved or covered by Epic or Braintree are the responsibility of the parent or guardian.
